Remortgage Loan, Scotland
A remortgage loan is a way of transferring your mortgage to a new
lender or loan scheme. You don't have to move home to change your
mortgage and take advantage of the different mortgage rates on offer.
Strong competition between
mortgage lenders means that new deals are always being introduced,
and an ever-increasing variety of mortgage rates are available.
Remortgage loans have become increasingly popular recently as homeowners
take advantage of these cheaper mortgage offers. In fact, The Council
of Mortgage Lenders says that in some months remortgage loans can
account for almost half of all mortgage lending.
Remortgage - the
process
Getting a remortgage loan was once a complex and confusing process,
but its increasing popularity has made it much faster and simpler.
Basically, you repay your existing mortgage in full by borrowing
the same sum (or possibly more) from another mortgage lender.
To do this, you will
need;
- a valuation of your home (often conducted
by the new mortgage lender)
- proof of your income, and
- a solicitor, to undertake a small amount of
paperwork.
Fortunately, we have
considerable experience in this area and can make all the necessary
arrangements on your behalf.
Switching Your Mortgage
Lender
With so many incentives and so much competition between mortgage
lenders, it is our view that anyone who does not review their mortgage
arrangements at least every 18 months could be missing out. We would recommend a 'Mortgage Health Check' every
year. Pick a date that you won't forget (your birthday, for example)
and use that as a prompt to review your mortgage. You don't
have to do this yourself, you can easily ask an independent
mortgage
adviser to do it for you. Remember to ask the adviser for
their 'Key Facts Guide to Our Services'.
